Senbon Torii (Thousand Gates)
About 5 min walk from the main hall
The two rows of tightly packed gates just behind the main shrine. Crowds here follow the main gate almost hour for hour, then clear out faster after 17:00.

Yotsutsuji Intersection
About 30–40 min walk from the main hall
The crossroads where most visitors turn back, and one of the best views anywhere on the route. The path beyond it to the summit is usually much quieter.

Getting there
How do you get here from Kyoto Station?
Take the JR Nara Line to JR Inari Station: about 5 minutes, 2 stops, 150 yen. The big torii is right in front of the station exit, about 1 minute on foot.

Where can you leave your suitcase?
The path up Mt Inari is almost all stone steps. A suitcase won't get far, and coin lockers nearby are few and cash only.
